What Can I Eat After Dental Implant Surgery?

In this video, Dr. Ruedi Tillmann explains dietary recommendations following dental implant surgery to promote healing and comfort. Patients in Kaysville, Ogden, and Greater Salt Lake City can contact us for a free consultation to prepare for their procedure.

After having an implant placed, it’s important to follow specific dietary recommendations to ensure proper healing and long-term success. For the first day, and up to a week, we ask you to stick to a softer diet. This includes foods that require minimal chewing, such as soups, yogurt, mashed potatoes, and jello. These gentle options allow your gums and implants to heal without unnecessary strain.

Within several days, you’ll be able to transition back to chewing more comfortably. However, we recommend avoiding hard or crunchy foods like celery, carrots, and nuts for about a week. This precaution ensures the implants, along with any denture or crown placed, have the time they need to stabilize and integrate properly.

The goal of implants, especially mini implants, is to restore your ability to chew normally. Many patients who come to us with dentures experience difficulties with eating, often dealing with movement, discomfort, or food caught under the plate. Once the implants are placed and healed, you’ll regain the ability to enjoy foods like nuts, crunchy vegetables, and meats without pain or embarrassment. It’s a transformative experience that feels much like having your natural teeth back, bringing both confidence and comfort to your daily life.
